Internal communication******

Internal communication projects involve much more than simply passing on management messages to the workplace in a top-down manner. Internal communication is about genuinely involving people in your business. Capturing their concerns and questions, motivating and inspiring them. This way, internal communication can strengthen the company culture. Find your internal communication consultant here!

Why internal communication?

Professional internal communication in two directions is crucial for a company to run smoothly. Projects, challenges, and the work atmosphere improve significantly with streamlined internal communication. Employees feel more strongly connected to each other, their team, customers, and the goals of the organisation. They commit more. They help their company grow and make more profit.

The range of solutions, strategies, tools, messages, and channels is very large. When developing a clear communication strategy, it is essential to discover the most effective messages, senders, and channels. These are also used in an effective content strategy.

Internal communication is not an isolated matter. It is part of the broader company culture and can strengthen this culture. It is linked to the business strategy, HR, the organisational structure, and much more. Collaboration across departmental boundaries is crucial.

With Hans and the developed communication strategy, we have made a major step forward. In just one conversation, he perfectly captured my style. Many of my employees felt seen and addressed. They then brought it up with me.

Strategy

A clear communication strategy is a prerequisite for effective internal communication. What is the business goal? What are the vision, mission, and values? What do you want to achieve with internal communication? What communication is lacking or not running smoothly? Time for an audit and a plan for your business!

Open listening

I believe that every business is unique. I notice that every business needs its own typical internal communication messages, channels, timing, atmosphere... Generally speaking: no hollow words, no vague management language, no secrets. And don't forget: always listen openly to your people.

Company culture

70% of employees go to work without enthusiasm. That is dramatic. But did you know that you can improve this figure through an open, safe, and positive company culture? Internal communication is an essential part of an inspiring company culture.

Praise your employees

Our main task as internal communicators has not changed over the years. With or without social media, it is about stimulating communication across all boundaries and departments. Sharing and passing on information. Testing the policy with people on the ground. Why would you want to praise your employees in this? Read the e-book →

This is how you play strategically

What do we see too often? That strategy is missing or not rolled out as planned.

Unfortunately, communication is sometimes an afterthought in a company. Yet we all know that communication has a stronger core function to fulfil. Internal communication is strategic ... provided it positions itself more strategically. How do you play strategically? Read the e-book →

Gain internal strength

Too many internal communication departments let the strategic lines be drawn by their colleague managers or board members. Too few communicators take the lead themselves or advise their management. The good news? We can become stronger in this. How? Read the e-book →

The hottest topic today in internal communication******

Internal communication is shifting from “sending as much as possible” to radical relevance, prioritisation, and digital wellbeing. This field is evolving strongly today. And fortunately, it is evolving towards “organisational effectiveness”.

Trust and clarity are central to this. Employees also want transparent, action-oriented updates. They dread overload. Especially when AI takes more control of the messaging.

My brief advice?

  • Drop fewer messages. Time the publication better. Targeted and contextual.
  • Create a ‘quality-first’ content filter for internal channels.
  • Set hard rules. Every message must state purpose, target audience, desired action, and urgency; otherwise, it won't go live.
  • Measure more than ‘reach’. Measure engagement and sentiment (open rates per target audience, responses, eNPS). Use that data to scale back volume.
  • Edit all AI-generated content. People ultimately decide on tone, context, and sensitivities.
